Our Event Photography Standards

Why do we shoot at 4500 x 3000 pixels and only in JPEG?

Usability: 50% of our jobs involve us downloading images to the client on-site right after the completion of the event. Our photographers are trained to shoot properly and “get it right” in camera with minimal editing required. We pride ourselves in getting images true to color without adding editing styles such as high contrast, moody color palettes, or light and airy trends that can make your photos look dated as soon as they go out of style.

If you, as the client, request an more in-depth stylized edit, we do have staff photo editors who excel at this.

Resolution: At 4000×3000 pixels, 90% of your marketing and promotional needs are covered. These dimensions ensure that you have plenty of room to fit the photo ideally for any social media and website content. This also ensures that your printing needs are met with the ability to print up to 20 x 30 inch images without any loss of quality. See below for some common dimensions, for reference:

  • 4×6 is 1800x1200px
  • Computer screen resolution of 1080p is 1920x1080px
  • Facebook Cover Photo is 851x315px

If you, as a client, request that we shoot maximum camera resolution due to the nature of the photo use we will be more than glad to do so.

File Size: Our clientele is mostly comprised of meeting planners who act as an intermediary between the photographer and the end client. Our goal is to deliver a high quality product that is usable and make the delivery as simple as it can be. A typical single assignment event can have anywhere between 150-500 images depending on the type of event, services rendered, and time allocated. When you do the math, at the maximum camera resolution this results in 2.5-10MB file.  Next, imagine a week long conference.  Of course, we can ship a USB to you but more often than not a link is a better and faster option. Depending on the internet infrastructure downloading this can present a challenge. See below for some common file sizes needed:

  • LinkedIn photo size limit: 8MB
  • Average website page size is 3MB (text and photo included)

If you as the client request the highest possible resolution for your event we are more than happy to oblige.
JPEG file type: With the training specificity of our photographers, constant technology breakthroughs in the camera industry, and being the file industry standard for any photograph, we can deliver high quality images in a file type you can actually utilize.  We as photographers can often forget who the photos are for and as such can leave you stranded with proprietary RAW formats which you need specialized software to view and open and will have difficulty sharing with the client and attendees.

If your marketing team is capable of working with RAW files we are more than happy to oblige. Contact Christie’s Photographic Solutions for a free corporate event photography quote.
